Natalie’s Story
Natalie came to Sojourner after she left her husband for what she promised would be the last time. After years of being shut off from the world, Natalie felt she had nowhere to go and no one to listen to her, until she found Sojourner. At the center, she heard staff using the language of “survivors” rather than “victims” and began to adopt the language herself; it made her feel strong and in control of her future. Natalie began to find peace through programming at the center, counseling, and gathering with her church community. Her newfound support system gave her the confidence the find her voice again. She says, “I’m grateful for the support I found here; it’s what keeps me coming back.”
